Best Japanese Izakaya Delivery in Singapore

We have specially curated a series of articles to feature restaurants with their own delivery services. This is our initiative to support and encourage our local businesses during this difficult period. Check out this article to understand and learn more about our initiatives.

While it might not be possible to gather with your friends at an Izakaya right now due to the Circuit Breaker Measures, we found some Izakaya restaurants with top quality food and either takeaway or islandwide delivery services! With that, you can now order in some Japanese-style tapas and sake to share with your family, right at home!

Izakaya usually refers to traditional restaurants that serve up small plates of side dishes, sakes and wines and are usually frequented by the Japanese after a long day at work. However, the modern izakaya restaurants now cater to everyone, especially those who are up for some gathering, chit-chat, good food and of course, some booze!

If you have a major crave for some Japanese food, order from these restaurants directly to support them!

Shunjuu Izakaya

This casual izakaya in Robertson Quay is located right in front of the Singapore River. You’ll be thrilled at the wide variety of Sumiyaki that they are serving! Sumiyaki means charcoal grill when translated into English. Shunjuu has a wide variety of side dishes that are prepared using the Sumiyaki method. You can think of them like the Spanish Tapas – where you order a lot of different dishes to share and have a little bit of everything.

If you are ordering to share, they have an array of Charcoal Grill sticks that you can choose from, ranging from the vegetable options like Mushroom and Leek. We love the Chicken Fillet with Code Roe because the combination is just superb! Also, get the Mixed Grill Bento from their rice menu. You’ll be getting a wholesome and hearty don topped with grilled seafood, chicken, pork and vegetables!

Kotobuki takes pride into having created the authentic Izakaya style Japanese dining in Singapore since 1981. Their Master Chef, Murata Tomaya has over 20 years of experience in traditional Japanese cuisines. If you are into freshly prepared, authentic Japanese dishes, fresh traditional sashimi and bentos, Kotobuki is one restaurant that you’ll fall in love with!

If you’re into Japanese rice bowls (dons), check out their Deluxe Kaisen Don with Botan Shrimp, Hokkaido Scallop, Sea Urchin, Salmon Belly, Tuna and Salmon Roe or the Chirashi Bakumori Don, which is an assortment of mixed raw fish cubes atop a bowl of sushi rice. You can be sure that the seafood that they are using is as fresh as it can get!

Not in the mood for a don? Then order some of the izakaya favourites like their Goma Tebasaki (Deep Fried Sesame Chicken Wing), Aburi Konbu Shime Saba (Seared Vinegar Marinated Mackerel with Konbu) and But a Kimuchi Itame (Pan Fried Kimchi with Pork).

This family restaurant had been serving great quality izakaya-style Japanese cuisine since 1987. Believe us, when we say that this is a hidden gem at Cuppage Plaza.

We’d totally recommend their grilled items like the Yakitori (Grilled Skewered Chicken with Leek), Buta Bara Kushiyaki (Grilled Pork Belly) and Beef Teriyaki. Do not forget to give their fried-to-perfection Tori Karaage (Japanese Fried Chicken) a go as well. The combination of the thin, crispy batter and juicy chicken is to die for!

For the mains, give their Garlic Fried Rice and Yaki Udon (Japanese Style Stir Fried Udon) a try. They might be simple dishes, but you’ll definitely fall in love with them.

Tomo Izakaya

They are Singapore’s largest izakaya with a capacity that can seat 210 guests with their rustic, yet modern minimalist Zen-like interior. The main ingredients are also flown in fresh from Tsukiji market two times a week so you can be rest assured that you’ll be tasting the freshest stuff!

Like every izakaya restaurant, you have to give their grilled dishes a try. Their Aspara Maki (Asparagus wrapped with pork belly) is grilled perfectly with a thin slice of pork wrapped around a hearty piece of crunchy asparagus. The asparagus takes away the oiliness of the pork belly, making this dish a really light and refreshing one. If you’re a fan of miso soup, you have to get the Gyu Nikomi (Beef and Vegetables miso stew). This is unlike your usual miso soup because it is infused with the sweetness of the huge chunks of tender beef cubes as well as the generous, hearty amount of vegetables – a really good dish to share!

We are so glad to see dishes cooked using the traditional Japanese way on the menu. These lightly seasoned dishes will allow you to taste the true flavours of the main ingredients. So you definitely have to give their Himono Horse Mackerel and Grilled Himono Squid a try.

Other must-try dishes are the Seared Mentaiko (Seasoned Cod Roe), Chicken Nanban (Boneless Fried Chicken with Homemade Tartar Sauce) and Seared Fresh Bacon. All of these are specialty side dishes that will taste even better when paired with some quality sake!
