Founded in 1997 by Bob and Cathy Betz, Betz Family Winery is renowned for its premium Bordeaux and Rhône varietals in Washington. After 28 years at Chateau Ste. Michelle, where Bob became Vice President of Winemaking Research, the Betzes produced their first vintage with just 150 cases. Bob’s expertise was further recognized in 1998 when he earned the Master of Wine degree, a prestigious title held by few globally.
In 2005, the couple built a state-of-the-art winery in Woodinville, and their wines soon garnered critical acclaim, including top rankings from the Seattle Times. In 2011, Steve and Bridgit Griessel took over ownership, with Bob remaining as mentor and consulting winemaker.
In 2023, Ackley Brands acquired Betz Family Winery, which continues to produce small-lot, handcrafted wines under winemaker Louis Skinner, maintaining its reputation for excellence with a production of 2,500 cases annually.
